Tasmania Skilled Migration ROIs Closing 3 June 2026 for the 2025 26 Program Year

Migration Tasmania has confirmed that Registrations of Interest (ROIs) for all pathways and passes of the Tasmanian Skilled Migration State Nomination Program will close at 5pm on Wednesday, 3 June 2026. The closure reflects strong demand for Tasmanian state nomination and effectively marks the end of new ROI intake for the 2025 26 program year. The final invitation round will be held on Thursday, 4 June 2026.
This article walks through every aspect of the announcement so candidates currently in the Application Gateway, prospective applicants and registered migration agents understand exactly what is closing, what continues, and how to plan for the transition to the 2026 27 program year.
The closure applies to Registrations of Interest across every pathway and pass administered under the Tasmanian Skilled Migration State Nomination Program. In practical terms this covers ROIs intended to lead to nomination for the Subclass 190 Skilled Nominated visa and the Subclass 491 Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa, including the Tasmanian Onshore Skilled, Tasmanian Onshore Graduate, Overseas Applicant, and Small Business Owner pathways.
After 5pm on 3 June 2026, no new ROIs can be lodged through the Application Gateway until the 2026 27 program year commences. Migration Tasmania has not yet published a confirmed opening date for the 2026 27 program; further information will be published on the Migration Tasmania website and in its newsletter when it becomes available.
Importantly, the closure of ROIs does not mean the program is shutting down. Migration Tasmania has confirmed two activities will continue.
Activities continuing after 3 June 2026
However, Migration Tasmania has warned that with few nomination places remaining for the 2025 26 program year, not all applicants will be nominated this program year. Where an application is approved but no nomination place is available, the candidate will be nominated after Tasmania receives its allocation for the 2026 27 program year.
Candidates who have lodged an ROI but are not invited to apply for nomination before the end of the program year do not lose their ROI. Migration Tasmania has confirmed that an ROI that is not invited will continue to be held in the Application Gateway for six months from the date of submission, and will be considered for an invitation when the 2026 27 program opens.
Candidates whose ROI is approaching the six month mark should monitor their Application Gateway and be prepared to refresh their ROI once the 2026 27 program opens to preserve their visibility to Migration Tasmania.
For candidates who do not yet have an ROI in the Application Gateway, the closure on 3 June 2026 is significant. Any candidate who is currently eligible should consider lodging an ROI before 5pm on 3 June 2026 in order to be considered in the final invitation round on 4 June 2026, and to remain in the Application Gateway for the first six months of the 2026 27 program year.
Candidates who are not yet eligible, for example because they are still completing the required period of work in Tasmania or finishing a Tasmanian qualification, should use the closure period to ensure their evidence is complete and their occupation is correctly assessed so that an ROI can be lodged as soon as the 2026 27 program opens.
If you have already received an invitation to apply for Tasmanian state nomination, you can still lodge your nomination application after 3 June 2026. Migration Tasmania will continue to assess these applications. However, given that nomination places for 2025 26 are nearly exhausted, you should expect that the final nomination decision may be delayed and only issued once Tasmania receives its 2026 27 allocation.
The 2026 27 program design and nomination allocation will be confirmed once the Commonwealth advises Tasmania of its share of the national permanent Migration Program. The Federal Budget handed down on 12 May 2026 maintained the headline permanent Migration Program at 185,000 places, with more than 70 per cent reserved for the Skill stream and a strong onshore tilt.
Candidates should expect that Tasmanian state nomination will continue to prioritise occupations aligned with the Tasmanian economy, particularly in health, construction, education, hospitality, agriculture and engineering. Long term residence in Tasmania, employment with a Tasmanian employer and completion of a course at a Tasmanian education provider will likely continue to be material considerations.
