TSMIT Salary Threshold Increase 2026 – Impact on Employer Sponsored Visas

The Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) has increased to $73,150 per annum, up from $70,000. This applies to all new employer sponsored nominations lodged from 1 July 2025 onwards.
What is the TSMIT?
The Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) is the minimum salary an Australian employer must offer to a foreign worker when sponsoring them for a temporary or permanent skilled visa. It ensures that sponsored workers are not paid below a baseline level that undercuts Australian workers.

What This Means for Employers and Applicants
Employers must ensure that the guaranteed annual earnings offered to a sponsored worker meet or exceed the new TSMIT of $73,150. This applies to the base salary and does not include non-monetary benefits, overtime, or bonuses unless contractually guaranteed.
Additionally, the salary must also meet the Annual Market Salary Rate (AMSR) — the market rate for the nominated occupation in the location where the worker will be employed. Where the AMSR exceeds the TSMIT, the higher amount must be paid.
Important
Nominations lodged before 1 July 2025 are assessed against the previous TSMIT of $70,000. If your nomination is pending, it will be assessed under the threshold that applied at the time of lodgement.
